    Bannerman Castle

    Bannerman Castle is an abandoned military surplus warehouse located on Bannerman Island (aka Pollepel Island), originally built by Francis Bannerman VI in the early 20th Century.

    On the island you will experience beautifully restored gardens, the Bannerman Summer Residence which hosts a small museum, and incredible views of the Hudson River Fjord and the arsenal ruins.

    Dia Beacon

    Dia Beacon is the museum for the Dia Art Foundation's collection of art from the 1960s to the present and is one of the 12 locations and sites they manage. The museum, which opened in 2003, is situated near the banks of the Hudson River in Beacon, New York.

    Adair Winery

    Adair Vineyards is located in the Historic Hudson Valley. Little known is the fact that wine growing was once a thriving industry along these Hudson River shores. The French Huguenots planted grapes in the Hudson Highlands in the 17th century and in 1870 a hundred tons of grapes a day sailed from Marlboro down to New York City. While wine making is not new to the area, it did fade in importance during Prohibition and did not, until recently, stage a dramatic comeback.

    Opus 40

    Opus 40 is a monumental environmental sculpture rising out of an abandoned bluestone quarry at the foot of Overlook Mountain in Saugerties, New York. It is all the work of one man: the sculptor Harvey Fite. Extending over more than six acres, with thousands of tons of exquisitely laid dry stone walling, Opus 40 is one of the most extraordinary attractions in the Hudson Valley.

    Olana

    In 1844, 18-year-old Frederic went to study with Cole in Catskill, New York–on the banks of the Hudson River–and accompanied him on sketching excursions in the nearby Catskill Mountains. Cole noted that Church had “the finest eye for drawing in the world.” In 1848, at age 22, Church became the youngest artist to be elected to the National Academy of Design.

    He later was one of America’s best and most accomplished landscape painter’s, known throughout the world.

    Vanderbilt Mansion

    During the four decades that Frederick and Louise Vanderbilt owned Hyde Park, from 1895 to 1938, nearly every structure on the property was replaced, with the exception of the Gardener’s Cottage and Tool House. Despite the extensive modifications to the structures, the organization and circulation of the estate remained quite similar.

    Kayaking to a lighthouse

    Come on out and paddle the calm,  safe waters of the Esopus Creek all along the Esopus Bend Nature Preserve where you'll enjoy scenic beauty,  nature and abundant wildlife!  You'll launch from the Saugerties Beach and paddle down about 2  miles out and then back. No real current to speak of in either direction.    There are sand bars in a few places where you can get out and swim or hang out.  We'll send you out with squirt tubes to keep each other cool and ...... well....they just add silly fun to everything!
